Wool throws and blankets

About Flock & Hare

Hi, I’m Kate. I am based at home in rural Leicestershire in the National Forest I run my own flock of sheep on our small holding and share my love of the countryside with my husband, my two teenage children and our beloved Springer Spaniels Harris and Tweed. I spent my childhood on our family hill farm in the Peak District as a child I have always had animals as part of my life and from an early age had a passion and dedication for helping with the sheep from lambing time, husbandry tasks to selling at Bakewell Market!.  I have a love for interior design and get so much out of the whole process. My love for interior design started advising friends and family and more recently renovating my own home. I have a Diploma in Professional Interior Design through the National Design Academy covering Colour Theory, Historical Interiors, Lighting, CAD design and full interior design schemes. After completing my Diploma this then gave me the confidence I needed to start my journey and how Flock and Hare began.

My inspiration comes from the beautiful countryside around me, I love bringing the outside in to everyday living and achieving this through texture and natural fibres. Simplicity to me is the key and adds that extra feeling of cosiness and luxury that with these added touches makes your house a beautiful home.  I made the decision to develop my knowledge and look into processing my own sheep’s fleeces, wool really is such an amazing product it has great thermal properties, hypoallergenic, naturally sustainable and renewable because of the breeds I keep, they have a wonderful mix of natural fibres to bring softness and quality into the yarn, I have then blended the wool with black Alpaca yarn for a luxurious touch and to add a beautiful natural grey to the fibres. There are very few traditional weavers left around the UK but I was fortunate to find a wonderful company based in the depths of Ceredigion in West Wales who based on their experience and expertise worked and collaborated with me to produce my beautiful products. I have recently extended my range and use my cleaned carded fleeces for needle felting hares and sheep which are all handmade by me here at my home.

I feel passionate about the need for family time and the great outdoors, there is nothing better than a natural fibre like wool to bring us closer to nature in our homes. It is so versatile being a naturally renewable fibre, eco-friendly, hypoallergenic and will bring a luxurious touch to any interior scheme. After a long walk or working with my sheep all day settling into my favourite comfy sofa with the cosiness of a wool blanket around me bringing a little part of the countryside into the home and into your homes and everyday lives.
